Special Education Lead Teacher

Purpose: To provide a warm, nurturing, safe and loving environment where self concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged, individuality respected and a love for God is fostered.

 

We are looking for a Special Education Teacher to join our team of educators.

You will be responsible for teaching integrated groups of students; some with mild or moderate disabilities. You will use a nature based curriculum to meet each student’s learning requirements and build individual lesson plans tailored to their specific needs. You will also discuss with parents and support staff about important matters that might impede students’ progress.  Ultimately, you will help and inspire children to achieve important learning milestones.

Qualifications:  The person selected for this position must meet the minimum requirements set up by the state of Colorado Department of Human Services child care licensing according to section 7.702.44.  This person must demonstrate leadership ability with the teacher assistant and have excellent time management skills.  This person must also show an ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children. This person must show evidence of emotional maturity and stability.  This person must have the physical stamina to handle their responsibilities. This person must also have the knowledge of the developmental level of the children in their care and use this knowledge in their interaction with the children and their construction of their lesson plans.

  • Experience as a Special Education Teacher or relevant role

  • Good knowledge of current special education methodologies

  • Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities

  • Ability to create IEPs

  • A patient, resourceful, and resilient personality

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Valid state special education certificate

  • Degree in ECE Special Education is a plus

Lead Teacher

Key Responsibilities:

 

  -To offer a classroom that meets the emotional, physical, intellectual, social and spiritual needs of both

the individual child and the group

  -To provide leadership and stability for the classroom

  -To interact with the children and to encourage their involvement in activities

  -To prepare a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing, one that encourages a

child to grow and to explore

  -Under the supervision of the director, to plan weekly lesson plans based on the developmental needs

   of the children

  -To maintain assigned records of attendance

  -To see that the program goals are implemented

  -To establish and maintain good communications with parents through parent conferences twice a    

   year and on a daily informal basis

  -To observe, record and report significant individual and group behavior

  -To use appropriate and positive behavior guidance and to work with other staff so it is consistent

  -To report suspected cases of child abuse and/or neglect

  -To be able to intelligently answer all questions about the program

  -To participate in all recommended training programs, conferences, courses and workshops and other

   areas of professional growth

  -To be responsible for helping maintain the physical condition of the center on an ongoing basis (cleaning)

  -To maintain a professional attitude

  -Any other assigned duties relevant to the needs of the program

Teacher Assistant

Purpose: To assist the teacher in providing a warm and nurturing environment in which the child can grow physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually and spiritually.

 

Qualifications:  This person must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to  the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with AHP’s philosophy.  They must display emotional maturity, stability, and have excellent time management skills.  They must be seeking to take training in the field of Early Childhood Education, and must be willing to take on differing responsibilities in the center.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  -To interact, initiate and encourage the children in the activities during the day

  -To provide the children with a safe, loving and nurturing environment

  -To help the children control behavior using a positive appropriate approach: always to use a

   consistent technique

  -To provide nurturing, but to help the children become independent

  -To promote integral learning during meal times; to help the children learn social skills

  -To develop a cooperative and supportive attitude within the rooms

  -To help see that the program goals are implemented

  -To actively work on maintaining and supporting the staff team

  -To maintain a room arrangement that is safe, inviting, interesting and stimulating

  -To attend staff meetings

  -To attend workshops and inservice training

  -To assist in any record keeping for the classrooms

  -To report suspected cases of child abuse and/or neglect

  -To be responsible for maintaining the conditions of the center, on an ongoing basis (cleaning)

  -To maintain a professional attitude

  -Any other assigned duties relevant to the needs of the program

 

Not Responsible For:

 

   - Discussing children, or other business with parents

   - Planning activities for children
